Pair of pendant lights by Carl Thore (Sigurd Lindkvist) for Granhaga metallindustri. Sweden 1960s

Description

A pair of brushed aluminium pendant lights from Carl Thore. These are quite rare and belong to the early production at Granhaga Metallindustri where Carl-Thore (Sigurd Linkvist) was head designer for many years. They consist of six metal rings in brushed aluminium with orange lacquer on the inside. When lit the orange inside projects a warm glow down and up over the outside of each ring creating a truly spectacular effect. They are in very good condition with only few signs of age. Some small scrapings in the orange lacquer at the top which is not visible från the sides.

These are decorative lights and do not spread much light to the room or downwards.

The lights are rewired for safety and takes a standard E27 light bulb.

The real name of the designer known as Carl Thore was Sigurd Lindkvist, and he was born in 1916 in Åmal in Sweden’s Dalsland. After working for a lighting firm called Luko, in 1961 Lindkvist joined Granhaga Metallindustri, for whom he designed lights and was also head of sales, remaining with the company until he retired in around 1981. Lindkvist adopted the pseudonym Carl Thore for his Granhaga light designs on the spur of the moment when he was presenting the lights to a client who asked the identity of the designer. “Carl Thore,” Lindkvist blurted out, these being his two middle names.

I try to make the pictures reflect the true look, color and condition of the piece. If you have any questions or want additional photos please send a PM before buying.
