Description

Central is a medium sized light gray, almost white, cylinder shaped pendant with the classic Jo Hammerborg band in a dark gray lacquer. The cylinder shade has a white inner coating for optimal reflection of the light, while the colored inner coating on the band reflects color onto the cylinder shade when the lamp is lit. Open towards the top and bottom to ensure a good distribution of light upwards and downwards.

The idea with the light grey cylinder gives a great colour effect compared to all the copper ones he has done. A light that is truly before its time.

Jo Hammerborg designed the Central in 1967 and it was produced in four color variations; the inner coating of the dark gray band could be white, blue, red or green, reflecting their respectively color onto the cylinder shade.

This light is in very good vintage condition with only a few small scratches visible only with careful examination.

diameter 23 cm. Height 32 cm. Standard E27 light bulb.

Johannes (Jo) Hammerborg grew up right outside of Randers, in a regular middle-class family. He trained as a silversmith, participated in Denmark’s resistance and struggle for freedom in 1940-45 as a saboteur, studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and worked as a silversmith at Georg Jensen. In 1957, he was hired as a chief designer at the lamp manufacturer Fog & Mørup, where he worked until 1980.

And now, decades later, his coveted lamps are in high demand, and they are being sold in antique shops.

I try to make the pictures reflect the true look, color and condition of the piece. If you have any questions or want additional photos please send a PM before buying.
